Once the main city library, before that moved into Lion Yard in 1975, and notable mostly for a small, pretty, domed reading room.
This and the later and larger Guildhall were built around, and so largely hide from the outside, an interesting building by Peck and Stevens dating from 1862 which contains a large hall, and can just be seen over the roof at the right.
