Cambridge 2000: university: Union Road: Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre
The building itself resembles a fortress.
The CCDC was formed in 1965 by Olga Kennard in
the university's
Chemical Laboratories.
The architect, Erik Sørensen, had in 1960
been the architect of Kennard's own house,
Keelson, 8A Hills Avenue.
From 1969-1976 the CCDC was housed at
College House
in Lucy Cavendish College.
The data was valuable enough that the centre, although
still linked with the university, became an independent
company in 1989, with the status of a non-profit
charitable institution.
