Cambridge Transport Follies: "No right turn" signs on Mount Pleasant

July 2002

In 1999 the layout of Mount Pleasant heading towards Castle Street was changed so that right turns were no longer allowed. At the same time the entire junction (also taking in Histon Road, Huntingdon Road and Victoria Road) was re-designed, and this "no right turn" change was was one of the few improvements to traffic flow. Unfortunately more recently some bright spark has decided that a second sign was needed to indicate the "no right turn" just behind the first sign. Note that there was not even enough space between the two signs for the light for the second sign to be positioned correctly, so that it has ended up illuminating the back of the sign.

[ The older sign was removed August 2002, so this was probably just a poor planning exercise. However the light was still left illuminating the back of the sign until April 2003. ]
