King's Hedges Road is a 40 mph zone, for no particular reason, for most of the way from Cambridge Regional College to Arbury Road. About 100 meters before Arbury Road, at which there are traffic lights which are hidden around a bend, motorists see two signs (for non-British readers, the white circles with the black diagonal stripe, one on each side of the road) indicating that they should be able to accelerate to 60 mph. This is completely the wrong message to give, common sense would indicate that this is the one section of that stretch of road which should not be 60 mph (and the rest, conversely, could be). The photo below shows what a driver would see travelling on King's Hedges Road towards the junction. Note that the vehicles in the distance are stopped at the traffic lights, with the latter, at least, being indicated by a sign just ten meters or so after the 60 mph sign on the left. This awful situation has been like this for years.
