Mill Road: Bharat Bhavan (was Mill Road Library)
This was a typically grand Victorian library. In 1996, just short
of its hundredth anniversary, the city council closed it down, to
save money. The council then provided a lease on the property to
an organisation known as Bharat Bhavan, which means House of India,
and the building serves as a Hindu shrine and community centre.
The white boards along the top hide what were originally windows
that provided natural light into the library.
