The last few months of 2000 saw quite a bit of rain in England, many areas were flooded but Cambridge largely escaped. However the ground became so soggy that pools of water formed quite easily. Unfortunately later in the winter, on 6 February 2001, after yet more rain, the Cam flooded extensively for the first time since May 1978.
