Cambridge 2000: university: New Museums Site: old Cavendish Laboratory
university: New Museums Site: old Cavendish Laboratory
New Museums Site was once dominated by the old Cavendish
Laboratory. In spite of the oppressive working atmosphere
much great work was done here, including the discovery of
the electron by J.J. Thomson and the determination of the
structure of DNA by Crick and Watson.
The new
Cavendish Laboratory
does not come even close to matching the original in beauty
or spirit.
