In 2000 the entrance to the Clare May Ball was via punt starting at Garret Hostel Lane bridge, and navigating upstream about 100 meters to disembark at the Clare garden. Not very efficient, as witnessed by the long queue, but romantic.
Trinity is to the left in the photo, Trinity Hall to the right.
