Madingley Road: Schlumberger Research Centre

Cambridge, England: Madingley Road: Schlumberger Research Centre (Michael Hopkins and Partners)
(maps showing location: Google Streetmap Multimap )
Date photograph taken: 10 April 2000
Date built: 1983-1985
Architect: Michael Hopkins and Partners

One of the most beautiful buildings in Cambridge, especially remarkable because it is designed to hold oil test rigs. The fibre roof is a hallmark of Hopkins, used later, for example, in the Mound Stand at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. The building is sometimes lit up at night and is then a treat for those driving up the M11.

There was a later, more conventional, building added at the back.
