Cambridge 2000: Clare College: Old Court: south and west ranges
Not many people would instantly recognise this view of Clare because
King's College Chapel,
is just to the right and dominates
the scene. However the Clare buildings are impressive,
with the stone particularly resplendent
in the winter sun.
The south range (the right side in the photo) was
built in 1640-1642. The southern half of the west range had
its foundations laid in 1640 but work was interrupted by the
English Civil War and work was not really started until 1669.
The northern half of the west range was built from 1705 to
1715.
